This color palette is derived from an almost ethereal sunset over Lake Champlain, Vermont. The brilliant spectral effects of a sunset are caused by the scattering of light from airborne molecules in the atmosphere. The colors and their intensity are dependent on the type of molecule present in the atmosphere. Blue and green colors have shorter wavelengths and are scattered before they reach the eye. (Rayleigh Scattering) Reds, yellows and oranges have longer wavelengths and much more readily reach the eye.
