Vermont’s mountains contain diverse biomes with many species of life that have adapted to the seasonal changes of this northern state. Vermonts fauna is comprised of 41 species of reptiles and amphibians, 89 species of fish, 12 which are non-native; 193 species of breeding birds, and 58 species of mammals. Vermont also has more than 15,000 species of insects, fungi and algae.
